When in
Zadar one must visit the ancient town of Nin, around
15km north of the city. Nin is the island city of many wonders. It has an
ancient Roman theatre (still in good condition) and the Church of the Holy Cross (800 AD) deemed to be the smallest
cathedral in the world. Nin also has a natural wonder, it is known as the mud of Nin. This mud, only located around the town of Nin,
contains many theraputic elements. Some say it has the ability to make one look
and feel younger!
Zadar is a city with very good museums and many art exhibits. Expect to find
great varieties of artistic style and influence.
If you
enjoy the history of religious conquest, visit Zemunik (10 minutes from Zadar). Zemunik is a small, but
important Croatian city where Islamic expansion into Europe was
halted.
If you like to sing, dance and party, Zadar
is the place for you. Zadar hosts Musical Evenings in
Donat" a summer festival which contains baroque, renaissance and medieval
musical performances. Zadar hosts many other open air festivals in the summer,
during these festivals expect to find the streets filled with thousands of
spectators, many musical groups and makeshift cafes.
If
discos, dancing and leisurly evenings are your cup of tea, Zadar is the place to
be. Zadar is marked by hundreds of cafes and restaurants of all sizes, which run
into the morning hours. If you want to dance at a club with a couple thousand of
your closest friends, then go to Disco Saturnis in
Zaton (10 minutes North of Zadar) or Club Max in
Petrcane. These are without question two of the best dance clubs on the
Adriatic. If you prefer something a little more intimate, downtown Zadar has
what your looking for!
